The lot features an excellent Lakota Sioux polychrome painted parfleche case from the 19th Century. The piece shows a fantastic geometric polychrome painted finish across the entiure outside and flap of the case. The case shows one piece of parfleche rawhide that is folded over and sewn with Indian tanned hide. The flap shows Indian hide and the back shows an old trade clothe tie. The inside of the case shows the hand scraping remnants. The piece dates to the circa 1860-1870's and is truly a work of art. The hide has some stiff and some soft spots with no major damage. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce was also the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery, this piece is directly from the collection.
