This is a fabulous beaded Indian hide bandolier bag shot pouch from the Metis Cree of the Great Lakes region dating to the 19th-century. The bag exhibits Indian tanned hide with old red stroud trade clothe and old trade muslin covered in excellent whimiscal freeform floral and geometric beadwork in classic early Metis Cree pattern. The beads include old glass trade seed beads in colors of greasy yellow, greasy blue, Cheyenne pink, light blue, cobalt, red white hearts, greasy white, greasy green, chalk white, semi-transparent lilac, semi-transparent, buttersscotch yellow, and faceted metal. The bag shows a pouch or shot pouch with fully beaded intricate front and top flap with original Indiant tanned hide ties and frilly Indian hide fringes both having a nice patina. The shoulder strap shows a bifurcated split tongue end with medium width strap showing fantastic whimsical beadwork and fancy beaded edge with old red stroud front and old muslin backing. The piece is well kept with some stiffened hides but mostly soft with little hide or fabric loss and little to no bead loss. Measures overall 27.5-inches long by 10-inches wide. Strap is 2 1/8-inches wide.
