The lot features a phenomenal, rare miniature possible tipi bag from the Northern Plains Native American Indians dating to the 19th Century from the Sundog Bruce VanLandingham collection. The bag exhibits a thick Indian tanned Bison / Buffalo hide with traditional geometric banded design commonly seen on Northern Plains possible tipi bags done in period correct 19th Century glass trade seed beads. The beadwork shows colors of greasy Cheyenne pink, medium blue, cobalt, and red white heart. The beadwork is all sinew sewn and shows good condition with very slight bead loss. There is a Indian tanned buckskin hide tie at the top and fringes at the bottom. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and acquired by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. Miniature possible / possibles tipi (tepee teepee) bag’s are immensely rare with very few examples on the public market. Well kept good condition with slightly stiffened yet still supple hide, no apparent major damages, very slight bead loss. Measures overall 6”L by 3.25”W (including bottom fringe).
