The lot features a 19th-century Northern Plains rawhide rattle purchased at Christies in their November 2000 auction and from the private ex-museum and fine Native American collection of Eastern Montana. The piece exhibits a flared ovular form tapering to cylinderical handle, comprised of buffalo / bison rawhide parfleche sewn with sinew rawhide lacing. The piece shows a simple decoration with a double strand of 1800's glass trade seed beads in Cheyenne pink and black that are also sinew sewn. There is a short Indian tanned hide fringe at the base and horsehair tail drop at the bottom. The rattle has items inside and gives a nice rattling noise. The original Christie's East lot tag is included marked, "CHRISTIE'S / NB 151/23" and on the back a bar code with 0607 3473". This was sold in the November 2000 Christie's "American Indian Art & Western Memorabilia With Arms & Armour Auction. Provenance: Ex-Chistie's, ex-private museum and fine Native American collection from Eastern Montana. Measures overall without hair 7.75-inches long and with hair 17.5-inches long and is about 3.25-inches wide by 2.5-inches deep.
