19th C. Oglala Lakota Large Stone Driver

The lot features an original 1800's large stone driver full-groove head from the Oglala Lakota Sioux with paperwork from The Guns of History. The piece exhibits a large stone driver which has a full-groove running around the entire pounder. The piece exhibits Togia Lakota language marks as documented by Wendell Grangaard, "Acting Father - Oglala - married - Little Bird - Dakota" which is writen on the stone four times (each side, as shown on illustrations 1-4). Acting Father was an Oglala Lakota Sioux who lived in the Wounded Knee district of Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. He met Littel Bird, a Dakota woman at a pow-wow and married moving with her family to the Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux Reservation. The stone is marked from from a collection, "N.E. N. DAK. 8# HTT / Y0064", documenting where the stone was recovered in North Eastern North Dakota and being 8 pounds. The piece comes with paperwork and the stone measures 7" by 5.5" by 5".
