This is a fantastic, rare fully beaded front and back old harness leather strike-a-lite bag from the Plains Native American Indians dating to the 19th Century. The bag shows old harness saddle leather being sinew sewn with period correct 19th Century glass trade petit seed cen beads in a classic Plains geometric design. The beadwork extends on both sides and along the top strap, covering all areas, a rare feature. The beadwork shows a rare greasy blue border with pattern in greasy yellow, red white heart, greasy green, light blue, light green and cobalt. The inclusion of greasy blue, greasy green and greasy yellow is truly amazing. The bottom edge shows Indian tanned hide fringes with rolled tin jingle cones and Indian tanned hide ties and belt tie along the top. There is only slight bead loss, which nicely exposes the original sinew sewn, an early feature. The bag dates to the Indian Wars era of the 19th Century and is a beautiful example. The leather is slightly stiff, but still pliable, and most of the beadwork is present with little loss. Provenance: From a private Wisconsin collection. Measures 9.5"H with belt tie by 3.5"W.*
