This is a fantastic 19th Century beaded hide large pipe bag with rare double tab design and buffalo track beadwork from the Sioux of the Northern Plains collected from Fort Yates in North Dakota Territory. The bag exhibits Indian tanned buffalo / bison hide being sinew sewn and in a scarcely seen double tab or tail pattern, not often seen on full-size large pipe bags. The bag exhibits 1800's period glass trade seed beads with a buffalo track, geometric and stalk pattern. The colors include greasy blue, chalk white, greasy yellow, Cheyenne pink, red, cobalt, medium green, semi-transparent green and semi-transparent red. The bag has the original hide tie straps and long hide fringes on the bottom with rolled tin jingle dangle cones and red dyed plue feathers. There are various strands of sinew exposed, an early beadwork feature. The bag also shows cross, diamond features. The bag is similar to the circa 1870 Lakota Beaded Pipe Bag with double tab as well offered from Morning Star Gallery for $24,000. The bag is well kept with some stiffened areas but mostly supple with little bead loss. Measures overall 27"L by 7"W.
