This is a late 19th-century to early 20th-century beaded pipe bag from the Osage Native American Indians. The bag is comprised of Indian brain-tanned Buffalo Bison hide in a large 36 inch long pattern with fringes that is 6 inches at its width. The very attractive and colorful beaded patterns on both sides are done in typical late 19th Century geometric beadwork found amongst the Osage. The bag has minor expected wear from age and use but is still in supple condition. The piece was collected from an Osage family living at Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Truly a wonderful and early example with nice beadwork.
