Presented in this lot is an Antique 19th Century Camelback Leather Travel Trunk, circa late 1890s. This stunning beautiful domed (humpback) tooled leather trunk features a matching curved inner removable lift-out storage tray with five separate storage areas, canvas-lined interior, ornately riveted reinforcing leather trim exterior, leather closure straps, leather cover for Eagle lock, brass hardware, leather carrying straps on sides, metal corner caster wheels. Underside has two attached labels from, "Pritchard, Harrison Co. Butte, Mont." An 1890s leather camelback (or dome-top) travel trunk was a high-end, durable piece of luggage designed for the "Golden Age of Travel," used for extended voyages by steamship, train, or carriage; these trunks were a status symbol. The trunks are characterized by their rounded, arched tops, which were designed to prevent other luggage from being stacked on top of them in cargo holds, ensuring they remained accessible and protected. This leather camelback travel trunk is in very nice condition, displaying rich patina throughout. Side leather carrying straps are weathered but intact, leather straps wrapping over the top are weathered and intact, leather cover for Eagle lock is in nice condition, smaller front buckle strap is torn at the front.
