The lot features a fantastic 19th Century Northern Cheyenne beaded sheath and trade knife. The sheath is comprised of parfleched Buffalo Bison hide that is covered in beautiful period correct glass trade beads in a typical Cheyenne beadwork pattern. The beads show colors of greasy blue, cobalt, greasy yellow, semi-transparent rose, chalk white. The bottom of the sheath shows two hide fringes that are completely covered in beadwork. About halfway down the sheath, below that section and at the bottom of the fringes show original rolled tin cone dangles as well as some strips of hide and dyed red horsetail hair. The sheath shows a dark yellow / red ocher mineral pigment coloring and has a braided tie strap with brass trade beads at the top. The sheath is paired with an old clip point bowi-like thick heavy trade knife with nice clear maker's mark on the side. The knife shows coffin like two-piece beveled hardwood handles with copper rivets securing it to the tang and further adorned with old brass trade tacks in circle and cross patterns. The original set is well preserved with little to no bead loss and expected wear from honest age and use. Provenance: From the ex-collection of Dale Harrison Cincinnati, Ohio. Sheath measures 10 inches long (not including bottom fringe) by 3 ½ inches wide. Trade knife is 11 ½ inches long.*
