The lot features a 19th-century Comanche buffalo horned war bonnet with beaded brow from an ex-Aix Paris France and Colonial Concepts Paris, France collections. The piece exhibits a thick Great American Bison / Buffalo Indian tanned hide with fur on the bonnet sewn with sinew with polished Buffalo / Bison horns tied on with Indian tanned hide and further accented with a sinew sewn band of old red stroud trade clothe, the brow band is beaded with period 1800’s glass trade seed beads in chalk white and greasy blue. There is a small remnant of red dyed yarn fringe and various Indian tanned hide fringes and ties still attached. The inside of the headdress bonnet head shows small remnants of red ocher. Williams, El Reno, Oklahoma sold by Bonhams Skinner; and the image of a traditional Comanche with buffalo headdress late-19th century. The is a very well kept example with little to no bead loss and supple hides with no major damages. Measures across 17-inches wide and 20-inches high from the top of the head to the bottom of the trailing buffalo hide. The inside of the bonnet has an approximate inside circumference of 23-inches.
