Featured in this lot is are three (3) 1800s coverlet pattern designs. A coverlet is a catch-all term for a mid-size blanket. By mid-size, we mean large enough to cover an entire bed, but small enough that it doesn’t reach the floor. The main difference between a quilt vs coverlet is that coverlets do not have a middle layer of warmth as quilts do. Coverlets are made from a single piece of fabric. The fabric of quilts is in fact quilted, with three layers, but coverlets are not quilted. As an extra layer of bedding used for decoration or warmth. It comes in both plain styles and patterns. Coverlets work well in cold climates or seasons as an additional layer atop your comforter or duvet, but they can also be used as your main bedding option in warm climates or seasons. These three vintage patterns typify the early patterns of German and Dutch designs of eight point stars, potted flowers, acorn palmettes, vining flowers, foliate designs and trees.
The patterns are in good overall conditions, seams have intermittent tears, edges show some fraying - all consistent with age and use. Age tanning exhibited also consistent with their age. Largest piece measures 12.75"W x 30"L fully unfolded.
