The lot features a set of 19th-century Crow Apsáalooke beaded men's leggings. The leggings, from the Crow Apsaalooke of Montana, are comprised of a large blue and dark blue stroud wool trade blanket with old red clothe border and sections of period beadwork that extend along both sides. The beadwork is all 1800's glass trade seed beads, petit, in colors of chalk white, cobalt and light blue with cuff shape along the ankle / bottom with a triangle beaded section above in chalk white in the shape of an buffalo / bison head or upside down bell. This unique triangle shape is documented on many Crow Apsáalooke men's leggings such as the examples from Heritage Auctions, Sotheby's, Minnesota Museum of Science, Christie's, and The Minneapolis Institute of Arts. The leggings are tied with Indian tanned hide, the beaded sections are done on old green stroud trade clothe with Indian hide ties on the bottom. The beadwork is sinew sewn. There is some loss to the clothe from honest age and use and some fading to the color of the leggings. Each legging measures 28-inches long by 13-inches wide (how each lays).
