This is a fantastic fully beaded 19th Century signal mirror case flat bag from the Crow Native American Indians of Montana. The case is comprised of Indian brain-tanned Buffalo Bison hide lined with old calico trade cloth and covered in exceptional beadwork on both sides in typical Crow pastel colors and geometric patterns. The beadwork shows fine detail and is likely one of the best beaded signal mirror pouches with artistic design on the market. The original beaded carrying strap is still attached and is comprised of old trade clothe with some later added brass conchos. There is a section of Indian tanned fringe hanging off the bottom with strips of old yarn and small beads. The beadwork is all 19th Century glass trade seed beads showing colors of Cheyenne pink, greasy yellow, butterscotch yellow, semi-transparent green, semi-transparent medium blue, greasy green, black, chalk white, semi-transparent rose, semi-transparent amber, and a semi-transparent greasy light blue. Provenance: From the Dale Harrison collection in Ohio. The bag itself is 8 ½ inches long by 6 ½ inches wide not including fringes are strap, total length is 23 inches long. The bag is accompanied by a later added contemporary 20th Century mirror, in the pattern of a “vanity mirror”. The mirror shows metal brass tacking and measures 8 ½ inches by 3 inches wide. The bag itself is truly a wonderful piece of original American Indian Art. The first image shows both sides of the bag at once, there is only one bag.
