Presented in this lot is a 19th Century Louis XV Carved Walnut Two-door Buffet Sideboard, circa 1880. Features intricate carved detailing throughout, highlighting its craftsmanship and cultural heritage. When Louis XV, who reigned from 1715–74, focused royal life on the smaller salons of Versailles rather than its grand chambers, it transformed the aesthetics away from the imposing and angular furniture that characterized the style of Louis XIV. A broader focus on comfort and more delicate forms define antique Louis XV furniture, with nature-inspired carvings, wood inlays, curved cabriole legs, asymmetrical shapes and rounded oval seat backs. This elegant fruit wood buffet stands on short cabriole legs decorated with carved acanthus leaves at the shoulder, and ending with escargot feet. Two-board serpentine top and front, two drawers having extensive, fine carving over an elaborate carved and shaped acanthus leaves skirt apron with pierced cartouche, detailed heavy forged iron drawer pulls and matching pierced escutcheons hardware. The cabinet has two arched recessed paneled doors dressed with oversized iron hinges and large decorative openwork iron escutcheons; the doors with a stationary center panel, open to interior shelving for ultimate storage. Arched side panels are nicely carved. Excellent quality with superb craftsmanship, the buffet is in wonderfully preserved condition, nice finish to two-board top, nicely finished throughout. Measures 21.25"W x 50"L x 42"H and weighs 138 pounds.
