For your consideration is this first edition of "Stanley's Wonderful Adventures" by J.T. Headley and Willis Fletcher Johnson and published by Hubbard Brothers, Philadelphia, 1890. From the title page: "Twenty years of the most wonderful adventures the world has known. The most complete, authentic, and thrilling recital yet issued of all his noble, daring, marvelous adventures, grand discoveries, and signal triumphs in opening up a vast continent of untold wealth to the civilized world". The book is 802 pages and "richly illustrated". It is bound in brown cloth and has a stamped gilt and black pictorial cover and spine. In addition to the numerous illustrations, the book also has a fold-out map.
This brown cloth bound gold gilt stamped cover is in good overall condition, scuffing to the edges, gold gilt fading noted. Front cover has five gold gilt stamped vignettes, spine is loose at both covers. Intact pages exhibit age tanning and minimal foxing, no other obvious marring noted. Measures 9"L x 6.25"W x 2.25"D.*
