Offered in this lot is the Rare First Edition of "Custer's Indian Battles" by Colonel Charles Francis Bates, 1936, published in Bronxville, NY. Illustrated with maps, photographs and reproductions of paintings by Charles Schreyvogel. The book provides a detailed military account of General George Armstrong Custer's campaigns and engagements against Native American tribes during the late 19th century. Bates utilized letters, diaries, and research materials provided by Elizabeth Bacon Custer (the General's widow) and Brigadier General Edward S. Godfrey, a participant in the Little Bighorn battle. The book examines the military strategies and tactics of both the U.S. Army and the Native American tribes, while also discussing the broader political and social context of westward expansion. Colonel Charles Francis "Frank" Bates (1862–1944) was a career U.S. Army officer, attorney, and historian best known for his extensive research on General George Armstrong Custer. Bates was a prominent authority on the Battle of the Little Bighorn and General Custer. The yellow illustrated softcover is in good overall condition, , age tanning and slight soiling exhibited on covers. Intact pages display age tanning, slight tear at bottom border on page 11. Measures 9"W x 12"L x 1/8"D, weight is 6oz.
