Featured in this lot is this first edition history of the Holland Purchase by Orsamus Turner published in 1849. History of the Holland Purchase of Western New York by Orsamus Turner, published in 1849, is a detailed historical account of the settlement and development of western New York, particularly the land acquired by the Holland Land Company. The book covers the region’s early exploration, Native American relations, especially with the Seneca, and the complex land transactions that followed. Turner provides biographies of early settlers, surveyors, and developers, offering insights into frontier life, politics, and the transformation of wilderness into organized communities. Rich in firsthand accounts and local anecdotes, the book serves as a foundational regional history of western New York. The condition of this book is preserved with some bookstore repairs to the cover which shows significant wear due to age and shows browning to the pages but otherwise shows a preserved condition. The measurements of this book is 9 1/4" x 6". The collective weight of this book is 2lb 8oz.
