Featured in this lot is a 1st edition of "Into The Sunlit Splendor: The Aviation Art Of William S. Phillips" by Ann and Charlie Cooper. More than an airplane portraitist, Phillips is a superb landscape and "skyscape" painter who places his subject in geographic and historical context. In a Willian S. Phillips painting—a tight formation of F-4 Phantoms screaming over Crater Lake, Oregon; the Blue Angels soaring near the California coast; a violent confrontation between a German Bf-109 and a RAF Spitfire above Sussex’s Beachy Head; a line of Bell Hueys passing through a monsoon-soaked valley in Vietnam—a viewer can almost feel the pressure on his body from the ground blurring speed of the plane, his mouth go dry in the desert air, or the chill on his neck when it’s so cold it hurts to breathe. A wealth of aviation and military history by Ann and Charlie Cooper accompanies the paintings, as do Phillips’s own archival photographs. The book features over 130 paintings by William S. Phillips. The book was published and copy-righted by The Greenwich Workshop Press in 2005 in Seymour, CT. The book and interior pages show good condition with no signs of obvious damage. The book features a dust cover and comes in the original box. The book measures 11" L x 14 1/4" W x 1" D.
