Featured in this lot is this 1891 first edition "Life of General Sherman" by James P. Boyd. This book is by the same author of "Military and Civil Life of U.S. Grant" and "Life of Sheridan". A stirring biography of the larger than life general and statesman. William Tecumseh Sherman (1820-1891) was an American soldier, businessman, educator, and author. He served as a general in the Union Army during the American Civil War, achieving recognition for his command of military strategy as well as criticism for the harshness of the scorched-earth policies that he implemented against the Confederate States. He steadfastly refused to be drawn into party politics and in 1875 published his memoirs which became one of the best-known first-hand accounts of the Civil War. This red cloth stamped illustrated hardcover is in fair condition, scuffing to edges, gilt fading. Intact pages exhibit age tanning and foxing throughout. The condition of this well preserved with some wear to the outside cover of the book consistent with age and browning consistent with the same but otherwise shows a well preserved overall condition. The measurements of this book is 8" x 5 7/8". The collective weight of this book is 1lb 10oz.
