Featured in this lot is this author signed First Edition of "Montana - The Gold Frontier" by Dan Cushman, 1973, Stay Away, Joe Publishers, Great Falls, MT. This book features stories and legends of the gold mining years of the Great Basin including Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming including others. A story of the Montana gold fields, wild frontier days of hardship and sudden fortune. The well-known story and more is brought together for the first time, much never printed before. Turbulent, exciting, and filled with facts. Not just another rehash of old vigilante hangings. No Western bookshelf can be complete without "Montana The Gold Frontier". Montana author Sumner Davis (Dan) Cushman (1909-2001) was born in Osceola, Michigan, grew up on the Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation in Montana, the Chippewa Cree Indian reservation. Among Dan's successes was selling his book "Timberjack" to Hollywood and seeing it made into a movie in western Montana in 1954; receiving a Spur Award from the Western Writers of America for writing "The Silver Mountain", the best Western historical novel of 1957; and the National Association of Independent Schools placing his book The Grand and the Glorious in its top ten list for pre-college readers in 1963. Cushman is known best for his novel "Stay Away, Joe", which saw national attention in the early 1950s and went on to be a Broadway production and a movie starring Elvis Presley. Front and rear endpapers are a topographical map of Montana as is the paper dust jacket cover. This black clothbound gold gilt hardcover book is in very fine condition, cover and spine are clean, gold gilt pristine, near-new condition brightness. Intact pages are also clean without age tanning or foxing noted. Paper dust jacket is in fair condition with edge wear noted, also protected by plastic wrap. Measures 6"W x 9.25"L x 1"D
