For your consideration is the First Edition of, "Trails Plowed Under, Tales of the Old West", 1927, by cowboy artist Charles M. Russell, with illustrations in colour and line by the author, with Introduction by Will Rogers. This is a Montana Cowboy Classic Western storytelling and illustrating by one of the all-time masters of the art. Charles Marion Russell, also known as C. M. Russell, Charlie Russell, and "Kid" Russell, was an American artist of the American Old West. He created more than 2,000 paintings of cowboys, Native Americans, and landscapes set in the western United States and in Alberta, Canada, in addition to bronze sculptures. He was known as "the cowboy artist" and was also a storyteller and author. He became an advocate for Native Americans in the west, supporting the bid by landless Chippewa to have a reservation established for them in Montana. In 1916, Congress passed legislation to create the Rocky Boy Reservation. The C. M. Russell Museum Complex in Great Falls, Montana houses more than 2,000 Russell artworks, personal objects, and artifacts. Other major collections are held at the Montana Historical Society in Helena, Montana, the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming, the Sid Richardson Museum in Fort Worth, Texas as well as the Amon Carter Museum of Western Art (now the Amon G. Carter Museum of American Art). In 1955, Russell was inducted into the Hall of Great Westerners of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. This rare book is a must have for Charlie Russell and Western art fans. Featuring a cover illustration by Russell, this grey cloth bound gold gilt hardcover has staining on the bottom right of the rear cover, otherwise book is in fine condition. Intact pages are clean, illustrations are bright. Original paper dust jacket exhibits age tanning, scuffing noted to edges. Measures 7.25"W x 10.5"L x 1"D, weight 1lb, 8oz.
