Featured in this lot is this 2 5/8" Pre Columbian Hohokam jadeite celt circa 300BCE to 1500CE. The celt features a wonderfully and professionally crafted jadeite tinted construction that shows a polished demeanor that shows a slightly sharpened wide segment with a rounded end around the object. Hohokam was a culture in the North American Southwest in what is now part of Arizona, United States, and Sonora, Mexico. It existed between 300 and 1500 CE, with cultural precursors possibly as early as 300 BCE. The condition of this utensil or celt is well preserved with a smooth demeanor and some roughing to the rounded end but otherwise well preserved. The measurements of this celt is 2 5/8" x 1 7/8" x 7/8". Provenance: the Owen D. Mort, Jr. Collection. Owen David Mort was an American engineer who amassed an impressive collection throughout his worldwide travels. His collection has included art, artifacts and other historical items from which he has donated to museums at the University of Utah and the Snite Museum of Art at the University of Notre Dame, including African, Afghan and Asian artifacts.
