For your bidding pleasure in this lot is a stone Mauritania Neolithic stone mace head. Mace heads were used in hand-to-hand combat and were among the most common weapon types in the ancient Near East. They were also perceived as symbolic items signifying authority. The Mauritania area is the location of many Neolithic sites. This Mace Head is a rich orange sandstone color and measures 5 1/4" across with a hole in the center that is 2 1/2" across and 1 1/4" thick. The head has chips along the outer edge, but is in good condition overall.
