Presented in this lot is a Rare First Edition of "A Dog's Tale" by Mark Twain, published 1904, printed in 1905 by Harper & Brothers Publishers in New York and London. This short story by Twain is told from the standpoint of a poor household pet, a dog self-described by the first sentence of the story: "My father was a St. Bernard, my mother was a collie, but I am a Presbyterian." It is a sad story about the dark side of human nature and the light side of a dog's nature. Samuel Langhorne Clemens (1835-1910), known by his pen name Mark Twain, was an American writer, humorist, entrepreneur, publisher, and lecturer. He was praised as the "greatest humorist the United States has produced", and William Faulkner called him "The Father of American Literature". This red clothbound stamped illustrated hardcover book is in fair to good condition with slight scuffing to cover edges. Intact pages exhibit age tanning, very slight foxing, and no other obvious marring noted. Measures 5.25"W x 8.25"L x .75"D.
