For your consideration is this Acoma Pueblo pottery by M. Romero from New Mexico. This is a wonderfully crafted pottery vessel, showing tooled bears to the walls of the vessel with a floral decoration behind and a unique checkered texturing to the top of the scenic decoration. The artist’s signature is shown on the bottom of the pot. This bowl shows a good example of the traditional geometric pattern, following expert symmetry and showing triangular border along the rim. The Acoma pueblo is best known for their unique pottery style and method, utilizing techniques that have been in practice since the Acoma establishment in 1150 A.D. Acoma pottery is emblematic of the lifestyle of the people who make it. It typically features thin walls, fluted rims, hand painted animal motifs, geometric patterns usually rendered in stark black and white or muted warm colors, and is unglazed — stylistic elements that collectively make Acoma pottery easily recognizable. The condition of this pottery vessel is good, with no obvious signs of damage and in good overall display condition. The measurements of this pot are 8 3/4" x 10 1/2" x 10 1/2".
