Presented inn this lot is a 1872 Author's Revised Edition of the Classic, "Adventures of Captain Bonneville, U. S. A." by Washington Irving, J. B. Lippincott & Co. Philadelphia. "Adventures of Captain Bonneville, U. S. A., People's Edition, in the Rocky Mountains And The Far West Digested From His Journal And Illustrated Fom Various Other Sources Author's Revised Edition Complete In One Volume" is the story of one of the great but not so well known explorers of the American mid-west and Pacific coast. Captain Bonneville of the US army spent three years exploring this vast area and this book details his adventures of that time. Travel with Captain Bonniville in the 1830's as he sets off on his quest and meets along the way the Fur Trappers, Hunters, Indian Tribes other Frontersmen and colourfull character's along the way. The book in itself is a great adventure story written by the master story teller Washington Irving, but is much more , full of history, the wild nature of the area and the customs/folklore of this time. A great book that takes you back to relive, learn and experience this episode in American history. Washington Irving was an American short-story writer, essayist, biographer, historian, and diplomat of the early 19th century. He wrote the short stories "Rip Van Winkle" and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", both of which appear in his collection, "The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent." Irving was one of the first American writers to earn acclaim in Europe. This reddish brown cloth and leather bound gold gilt stamped hardcover is in nice condition, scuffing noted to cover edges, gold gilt medallion with "Bonneville" on front cover. Intact pages exhibit age tanning, slight foxing observed. Measures 4.25"W x 6.5"L x 1"D, weight approx. 12oz.
