This lot is a direct mail advertising booklet from publishing company Brown & Bigelow, titled "Paul Webb's Mountain Boys" and dated 1961 (on the spiral booklet spine). Paul Webb helped to define the popular image of Appalachian Mountain folk during the 1930s at Esquire magazine. His hillbilly characters proved as lasting as those of Al Capp's “Li'l Abner” and Billy DeBeck's “Barney Google”. The popularity extended to merchandise, such as a long-running series of calendars and direct mail advertising. Included are vintage "The Hickory Gap Post Examiner" 1961 advertising, direct mail pamphlets featuring illustrations of The Mountain Boys. The front displays a full color Mountain Boys cartoon and inside is an illustrated Hickory Gap Post Examiner full of humorous hillbilly news. It is in great vintage condition and measures 8" L x 4.5" W when folded. Six have varied companies' advertising and six are sample advertising blanks. Also included are twelve advertising blotters, again featuring the cartoons; six have varied companies advertising and six are sample advertising blanks. They measure 9" H x 4" W. Lastly are two sample "Easy-To-Use Direct Mail Copy" letters, one "Plated Ad Copy" pamphlet, one unused Brown & Bigelow return envelope. All items are in near mint condition. The booklet’s overall measurements are 10.5" H x 7" W x .5" D.
