Featured in this lot is a great pair of 10th Mountain Division Trail Snowshoes made from wood, babiche (rawhide), and copper nails. These are marked and made by the A & FH Company of Wallingford, Vermont U.S.A., (Abercrombie and Fitch Holding) one of four companies that were producing snowshoes for the war. They are also stamped with dates of c.1943 and US. During the war and training, many snowshoes were simply tossed into a pile for the supply sergeant to put away. Usually this meant that pairs were not matched back with their original numbers. These snowshoes are a MATCHED pair #24258, in excellent condition for their age and have the original leather bindings. The snow shoes measure 58" L x 10" W.
