Offered in this lot is an African Blesbok Shoulder Mount, wonderfully prepared by a professional taxidermist. Posed with the head in an upright, slightly left turned, alert position. It features beautiful ruddy brown hair with great cream colored markings and pronounced ringed horns, glass eyes. The Blesbok is a must-have animal on most South African plains game safaris. Though there are only one species of blesbok, they are divided into two “breeds”, the common blesbok and the white blesbok. The common name is a derivative of the Afrikaans words for blazed antelope, which is in reference to the white blaze found on their face that sttretches from the uper forehead between the horns, to the tip of the nose. Their natural habitat is "Highveld", open grassland with water. The Blesbok's distribution is restricted to the Republic of South Africa. Historically they ranged in the central highlands of the Free State, Eastern Cape, southern parts of the former Transvaal, and marginally in KwaZulu-Natal. After being heavily hunted, population numbers have recovered dramatically due to vigorous conservation in game reserves and farms throughout South Africa and outside of its range in Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia with great success. This taxidermy Blesbok Shoulder Mount is in good overall condition, no marring noted, measures 19"W x 37"H x 13"D
