The necklace shows a various shades of red padre beads strung on a natural fiber necklace. Connected to the necklace is a bronze and ebony wood inlay Catholic INRI cross. The cross shows the crucifixion of Jesus and shows a tag at the top reading, "INRI". The letters INRI are initials for the Latin title that Pontius Pilate had written over the head of Jesus Christ on the cross. The words were "Iesvs Nazarenvs Rex Ivdaeorvm", translating to, "Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews". Below Jesus is a skull and crossed bones representing death, which is subjected to Jesus on the cross. The symbol is prominent in Orthodox icons of the crucifixion, as well as older Roman Catholic icons. The back of the cross shows the Sacred Heart image. In Catholicism, the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a symbol of Jesus's love for humanity and a sign of his divine and human love for his Father and for people. It's also a symbol of Jesus's interior life, which led him to be willing to sacrifice his life for people. In the center of the cross is where the ebony wood inlay is present. The necklace and cross show good condition overall with slight wear present from thier age and use over the years, but no signs of major damage is noted. The necklace measures 17" L x 2" W x 1/2" D and weighs 68.7 grams.
