For your consideration is this African, spider painted bamboo rain stick, circa 1950's. This large bamboo rain stick shows burned wood decoration with flames and spider painted decorations up the shaft. The bamboo shaft shows spindled dowels that spiral towards the center, where the beads or bits of bristle flow to the other end. A rain stick is a long, hollow tube partially filled with small pebbles or beans and has small pins or thorns arranged helically on its inside surface. The condition of this Rain stick is pristine, with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this rain stick are 59 1/4" x 3" in diameter.
