Featured in this lot is this American School, 19th century A Portrait of a Gentleman. The portrait features a wonderfully and professionally crafted oil on canvas construction that shows the likeness of a older gentleman with bi-focals and wearing a dress suit and holding a bible or another prominent book in his hands while sitting on a lounging chair. These oil paintings would have been created over the course of weeks if not months to capture the likeness of the individual to be displayed forever. The condition of this oil on canvas painting shows wear to the canvas with tears in the fabric around the outside and some cracking to the paint. The measurements of this of this oil painting is 33 1/2" x 27 1/4".
