Included in this lot is a collection of four late 1800s ephemera. The first is a bill of sale from the General Office of Laflin & Rand Powder Company dated April 8th, 1880 in New York. Laflin & Rand Powder Company was a gunpowder and early smokeless powder manufacturer notable for producing the smokeless powder used by the United States Army infantry rifles from 1896 to 1908. The second piece is a bill of sale from E. Remington & Sons dated October 24th, 1881 in Ilion, New York. As stated on this piece, E. Remington & Sons were manufacturers of loading rifles, shot guns, revolvers, and the Remington sewing machine. Eliphalet Remington became known for manufacturing the first commercial typewriter on March 1st, 1873. The third piece is a bill of sale from M. Silverman dated September 26th, 1880 in Helena, Montana. M. Silverman specialized in selling arms, ammunition, tobacco and cigars. They also"keeps on hand in season all kinds of fresh fruit" as stated on the bill of sale. The fourth and final piece is a receipt of a box of five cartridges dating back to May 5th, 1875. All of these pieces are in excellent condition for their age. The pieces measure 8 1/2" by 5" for the first piece, 8 1/2" by 7" for the second piece, 8 1/2" by 4 1/2" for the third piece, and 8 1/2" by 6 1/2" for the final piece.
