For your consideration are two pieces of Arizona green petrified wood found in the Chinle Formation in Northern Arizona near Winslow. Petrified wood from Arizona with green chromium is quite rare. Among petrified woods, it is one of the most well-known. This piece of petrified wood, which is derived from a tree fall in the Winslow, Arizona region, exhibits the presence of 2% or more chromium, the same element responsible for the green hue of emeralds. This petrified wood is from the Triassic era, between 220 and 200 million years old and comes from the Chinle Formation. Paleobotanists have called the tree that originally existed Araucarioxylon Arizonicum. It's no longer around but the Norfolk Island Pine tree and the South American monkey puzzle tree are its modern-day closest cousins. The first and largest piece shows a cut slab of the wood, with one side showing a more polished side and the other a more dull cut side. The piece shows the outer edge of the bark with colors of orange, tan and white, while the cut portions show colors of black, gray, blue, white and teal. The second is a smaller piece of petrified wood showing colors of gray and blue / gray. It features a small polished spot on the top. The large slab measures 2 11/16" L x 3 3/8" W x 3/8" H, while the smaller piece measures 1 1/2" L x 1" W x 3/4" H. The collective weight of the pieces is 123.5 grams.
