The lot features an original antique circa 1920's Grace C. Rockwell (1897-1973) Germany bisque doll signed on the back of the head. The piece is marked, "Copr. by Grace C. Rockwell Germany." This shows an original bisque doll with hand painted face, bisque arms and legs and head. Grace Corry Rockwell (1897-1973) was an American artist, teacher, and doll designer for Coal Gate, Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). She began her doll career in 1919, creating clothe dolls for children, later patenting her designs and expanding into bisque and composition dolls. In 1926, sher licensed her "Betty Jean" clay head design to Geo. Borgfeldt & Co. who had the bisque heads manufactured in Germany and assembled them with American-made bodies, made by J.D. Kestner in Germany. Well kept. Measures 11.5-inches long by10-inches wide.
