Included in this lot is are Antique American Victorian-era Tiger Oak Pressed Back Side Chairs (2), circa 1900, often attributed to the Larkin & Company. The chair is crafted from oak and features a spindle back, turned front legs and turned stretchers for stability, with upholstered cushions. The upper chair rail features a "pressed back" intricate acanthus and acorn design. Larkin furniture began in the late 19th century as a premium incentive for the Larkin Soap Company of Buffalo, NY. The "Larkin Idea" offered high-quality oak furniture, such as desks and bookcases, directly to consumers who bought soap and household products. Larkin furniture is recognized for its solid construction, often featuring quarter-sawn oak, and its historical connection to early 20th-century direct-to-consumer marketing. The pressback chairs are in very nice preserved condition, tiger oak wood displays impressive, distinct, irregular grain patterns.
