For your consideration is this beautiful antique opal glass dresser box from the C.F. Monroe Company (C.F.M. Co.). Charles Fabyan Monroe began importing glass from France to sell in his Meriden, Connecticut shop in 1880. He soon enlarged his shop to become a decorating studio and showroom, hiring some of the finest local artists and decorators. According to the Wave Crest Collectors Club website, "By 1886 the studio evolved into the C.F. Monroe Company. The company became renowned for its elegant and finely decorated Victorian opal glass known as "Wave-Crest"- a name which has virtually become [synonymous with] the Monroe Company itself". Opal glass was in its heyday between 1890 and 1910 and Monroe incorporated in 1892. By 1916, opal glass had become passe and Monroe closed its doors. The piece before you is marked "Wave Crest/ Trade Mark/ C.F.M. Co." The hinged box features lovely creamy-pink embossed glass and hand-painted, delicate blue flowers on top of the lid as well as on the sides. . This piece is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, or breaks. It measures about 3.25" in circumference and is 3" tall.
