Presented in this lot is an Antique Persian Serapi Hand-knotted Wool Runner Rug. The rug features a fine detailed design, bright colours, and a tight weave, circa early 20th century. The Heriz rug is one of the most well-known styles of Persian rugs, known for its unique styles and patterns. Serapis, for example, have been considered the finest grade of Heriz since the beginning of the 20th century. Their name is connected to the Serab village, where they originally came from. This category of Persian carpets has the finest handmade vintage and antique rugs. Rug enthusiasts worldwide still purchase these ancient antique Serapi carpets because they still ooze grandeur and an aura of complete magnificence. The rugs are produced in the city of Heriz, which is located in northwestern Iran near the city of Tabriz. Traces of copper in the drinking water of sheep produces high quality wool that is far more resilient than wool from other areas. The Heriz Carpet is the only carpet in the world where stories of the Old times are woven. The popularity of a Serapi carpet may be attributed to several beautiful qualities of the rug, but most significantly to its alluring hues and color schemes. The rug displays wonderfully and professionally handcrafted wool construction and shows geometric floral patterns along the border, with the centre of the rug showing four large geometric medallions. This stunning rug is predominately a cream white colour with red, rose, dark blue, forest green, tan and greyish blue throughout the piece, cream coloured fringe on each end. The rug shows very nice condition overall, with little to no wear. Measures 28"W x 96"L S490
