The lot includes this original Apache Native American Indian open-weaved burden basket with excellent rolled tin jingle cones. The basket has a wonderful contrasting colored wicker weave, and features long hand cut fringe, with rolled tin large jingle cones. The burden basket is a widely used tool and almost all design elements are used to be fully functional - jingle cones were often used to warn off small predators, a loose weave was made for draining water, or a tight weave would be used to carry loose grain. The basket is thought to date from circa 1940-1950's and shows a leather hide base with four leather sections running up the sides to the edge which also is woven with hide. Some of the large rolled tin jingle cones have fallen off of the fringe, but are still preserved and will be included with extras in the lot. Measures overall 12"H by 8.5" diameter. Provenance: From a 90-year collection out of Central Arizona in the Coconino National Forest.
