The lot features a unique set of Apache Native American Indian double saddle bags. The saddle bags have an unusual diamond cutout geometric scallop hide documented as being found with the Western Chiricahua Apache. This is a large paid, comprised of old Indian-tanned Great American Bison Buffalo hide, with typical Apache cut hide overlays attached with hide glue lacing on top of old red stroud trade clothe. This is a large, full set which was said to collected in Arizaon. There is a section of Indian tanned long buckskin hide fringes on both ends and two longer sections off each side. For other examples see: the Early Chiricahua Apache quiver valued at $10,000 from Garth's Auction 2004 sale, the Chiricahua Apache 19th Century quiver which sold in Cowan's 2013 sale for $5,535, and the example in the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian attributed to the Chiricahua Apache collected by General Nelson A. Miles from the Cecelia Miles Reber Major General Sherman Miles collection dated to circa 1880 and the Chiricahua Apache Quiver from NAAC. Provenance: From a Cheyenne, Wyoming collection. The bags measure 46 inches long not including the fringes by 14 ½ inches wide.
