Apache Nation Tacked War Lance By Carl Pierce

For your consideration is this Apache Nation rawhide and tacked war lance by Apache Carl Pierce, from the Many Trails Collection at the former Indian Nations Trading Post in Livingston, Montana. This war lance features a solid wood construction with brass tacked parfleche and rawhide wraps. The top and middle sections feature the parfleche wraps while the bottom shows the brown painted rawhide wrap. Four tufts of fur are set on the shaft with one on the bottom, two in the middle and one on the top. The top tuft of fur is the largest section. Connected to the bottom of the spear head, is horse hair, various colored trade beads and copper beads. Two turkey feathers adorn the middle of the shaft. A turkey feather and a section of horse hair, along with strips of rawhide adorn the bottom of the shaft. The lance shows good condition overall with little wear present and no signs of damage noted. It measures 71 1/4" L x 2" W x 1 1/2" D and weighs 2 pounds and 10 ounces.
