The lot features a fantastic 1800’s lance spontoon spear from the Apache Native American Indians. The piece shows a Revolutionary War Pike Spontoon blade along the top which is comprised of a long double edge blade with tapering pattern having a median ridge down the center. The blade is secured into the wood handle with a wrapping of iron and the handle is constructed of a solid Sotol Cactus. The top shows a tie of Indian tanned hide holding a scalp drop at the center of a bent wood and parfleche wrapped hoop further adorned with strips of red stroud trade clothe. The scalp drop is long and likely horse. The lance haft has four metal wire bands likely an old Indian repar and is finished with a pommel knob with single carved band. The entire piece has a nice patina from honest age and use. Provenance: Form a large American Indian Collection out of Livingston, Montana.
