Featured in this lot is this Alpaca silver thunderbird brooch from Lakota artist Armand American Horse (1982-). This brooch shows a Thunderbird with etched and tooled decoration, lovely design, and construction from Alpaca silver. The thunderbird is common to all Native American mythology. The thunderbirds are responsible for rain, lightning, and stormy weather. The eagle is considered to be the earthly representative of the mythical thunderbird. Offerings were made to the thunderbird of tobacco when the crops needed rain. The Armand American Horse hallmark is shown on the backside of the brooch. The condition of this brooch is good, with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this Thunderbird brooch are 3 1/8" x 2" x 1/8".
