Featured in this lot is an Antique Art Deco Era Tiger Oak Wardrobe Cabinet, circa 1900 to 1920. Art Deco style originated in France just before World War I, and had an important impact on architecture and design in the United States in the 1920s and 1930s. Wardrobes are typically designed with a simpler, more functional aesthetic to primarily store clothes. Tiger Oak, also known as quarter sawn or "ray flake", comes from a method of sawing logs into four quarters at a radial angle, from the outside to the inside. The cuttings show-off an amazing straight grain pattern where the growth rings intersect the face of the board at a 45 - 90 degree angle. Tiger oak is a distinctly American style. The quarter-sawn oak is known for its durability, stability, and resistance to warping, making it a popular choice for high-quality, long-lasting furniture. This wardrobe features a mosaic marquetry face design, four shelves, a pull out hanging rack, and a brass knob. As with many Art Deco style cupboards, this wardrobe features a flat front face.
