For your consideration is this M1895 Issue Cavalry sword made by Artillery - Toledo Factory. Although marked "Artillery", this does not denote an artillery use sword. It was only made by the Artillery Factory in Toledo, Spain. The Toledo Weapons Factory (Fábrica de Armas de Toledo) was formalized as the Royal Arms Factory in 1761 to centralize, protect, and advance the city's well known sword making craft. Eventually, it started producing modern firearms for the Spanish military until it closed in 1996. The sword shows a slightly curved blade and is marked on one side of the blade on the ricasso reading, "Artilleria Fabricade Toledo" and shows the serial number on the other side of the blade on ricasso reading, "4103". The gold colored metal handle shows a ribbed design on the handle section and a thick hand guard. At the top of the guard it is marked with a "U", a late 19th or early 20th-century government inspection or acceptance mark for Spanish military ordnance. It shows good condition overall with some wear present from its age, but no major signs of damage is noted. The blade measures 27 3/4" L x 1 1/8" W, while the handle measures 6" L x 4 5/8" W x 1" D. The total length of the sword measures 33" and weighs 2 pounds and 2 ounces.
