Featured in this lot is this Ashanti tribal Akuaba hide wrapped fertility doll. The doll shows sinew sewn hide wrapped doll construction with a heshi and wood bead necklace. Ashanti (or Asante) tribes people of Ghana carve female dolls, called Akuaba, that are believed to have the power to cause barren women to conceive and produce beautiful healthy children. To affect the magic, the doll is carried and treated like an actual child after being placed in a household shrine. The condition of this hide wrapped doll is good, with some wear due to age and usage/ exposure. The measurements of this doll are 17 3/4" x 4 3/4" x 3 3/4".
