This is a rare original Athabascan Native American Indian fully beaded baby belt papoose "baby strap" dating to the 1900-1950's. The belt shows a Moose or Dahottho Indian tanned hide construction with calico trade clothe inside lining. Known as the tl’ôot’aii “baby strap”, the baby belt was typically created by the grandmother like saying "Welcome into our rich culture". The belt supports a young child as she rides on the mother's back. This Gwich'in style belt shows a square style belt loop with medium ties. The belt shows all glass trade seed beads constructed of trade thread with a fancy edge of cobalt. The beadwork shows a chalk white background with floral design of cobalt, green, iridescent and red. The belt has a wonderful set of long tassel fring with wound glass pony beads with red and blue Germantown like trade yarn. Also called a Tl‘ôot’aii is “baby strap" or Ts’uhneegaanh tl’ool "baby string". The belt is of a smaller doll size used by the children for play. Measures overall 29.5"L by 1.25"W by 5.5"L at the tassels.
