Offered in this lot is the 1937 Second Edition of, "Audubon The Naturalist" by Francis Hobart Herrick, published by D. Appleton Century Company Incorporated New York London 1938. "Audubon The Naturalist A History of his Life and Time" Second Edition Two Volumes in One. A biography of the gifted ornithologist, animal painter, and writer whose extensive depictions of birds are still considered a monumental achievement in the worlds of animal biology and art. He was notable for his expansive studies to document all types of American birds and for his detailed illustrations that depicted the birds in their natural habitats. His major work, The Birds of North America (1827-1839), is considered one of the finest ornithological works. Audubon identified 25 new species and a number of new sub-species. Historical illustrations, photographs, and original documents are presented throughout the book.
The book is in good overall condition, the blue cloth gold gilt stamped cover and spine are intact spine is loose at the back cover, gold gilt is faded on the spine, front cover has a gold gilt stamped depiction profile of Audubon. Intact pages have gold gilt top edges, deckled fore edges. Age tanning and foxing exhibited throughout. No other obvious marring noted. Measures 6"W x 8.75"L x 2"D
