Featured in this lot is this August Buermann star marked raised shank spurs, circa 1890-1910. The spurs are really well constructed with a 19 tin sunburst rowel and swivel spur strap buttons; both spurs show early tooled spur straps. August Buermann immigrated to the US from Germany in 1864. After fighting in the Civil War, Buermann returned to New Jersey, where he went to work at Alexander Barclay’s company. Buermann bought out Barclay and, over the next 60 years, Buermann’s company produced the most complete catalog of bits and spurs of any company in the US, producing as many as 441 spur styles and 496 bit patterns. Many of these styles were original designs that were patented. The condition of these spurs is good, with great shape and oxidation consistent with the age of the spurs; the spur straps show wear consistent with age and one of them shows the tip of the male end broken. The measurements of these spurs are 1 1/2" x 5 3/4" x 4 1/4".
